SCHENECTADY, NY – October 13, 2015 – Schenectady County officials announced today that SI Group, a leading global developer and manufacturer of chemical intermediates, specialty resins, and solutions based in Schenectady County, has pledged a donation of $25,000 to support the county's Hazardous Waste Reduction Program.
"We appreciate the support of SI Group in advancing our efforts to protect the environment by contributing to our successful Hazardous Waste Reduction Program,” said Anthony Jasenski, Chair of the Schenectady County Legislature. "Our goal is to help families reduce the risk of children, pets, and others from being accidentally exposed to these hazardous materials, and this support helps Schenectady County provide our residents with ways to safely dispose of household hazardous waste in an environmentally friendly way."
SI Group's grant will provide funding for the purchase of a customized residual waste container that will facilitate the safe disposal of hazardous chemicals. Additionally, SI Group employees will volunteer at the next scheduled Household Hazardous Waste collection day, this upcoming Saturday, October 17 at the County's Department of Public Works facility.
"We wholeheartedly embrace the County's commitment to environmental stewardship," said Paul Tilley, SI Group Senior Vice President, North America and Global Key Accounts. "The safety of the environment, families, and communities are at the core of our business and culture. We're pleased to partner with our hometown community on this important initiative."
In 2014, the county helped residents safely dispose of more than 6,800 gallons of hazardous liquids, and nearly 14,500 pounds of hazardous waste. The program is sponsored by the Schenectady County Legislature, the New York State Environmental Protection Fund, and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.
